There’s a certain kind of love that only exists behind closed doors. Not because it’s hidden – but because it’s safe there. The kind of love that shows up in bare feet on hardwood floors. In coffee mugs left half full on the counter. In the way someone instinctively reaches for the other without thinking. […]
When people hear “photo session,” they often picture stiff poses, forced smiles, and someone yelling, “Okay now look natural!” That’s not what happens here. A couples session with Queer Joy Photography isn’t about performance. It’s about presence. It’s about capturing the way your hands naturally find each other. The way you laugh when something goes sideways. […]
A Love Letter to Stories, Community, and Queer Joy in Denver Some places feel like more than a store. They feel like a pause. A deep breath. A gentle reminder that softness, stories, and connection still matter. Petals and Pages Bookstore is one of those places. Tucked into Denver with equal parts heart and intention, […]
Let’s get one thing out of the way right now: Choosing a photographer isn’t just about pretty pictures. It’s about feeling safe, seen, and fully yourself in front of the camera, without shrinking, explaining, or performing a version of you that doesn’t quite fit. If you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community, you already know this: […]
Vanessa Barcus is a Denver-based fine jewelry designer and the founder of Talisman Fine Jewelry, known for creating handcrafted gold jewelry rooted in intention, longevity, and care. In this Queer Joy Photo at-home portrait session, we photographed Vanessa in her home studio, where she designs engagement rings, wedding bands, and other custom fine jewelry using recycled 14k gold.
I had the absolute pleasure of spending a snowy December day with Matthew and Orlando in their stunning mid-century modern home in Denver. Seriously, you walk into their place, and it’s like stepping into a cozy oasis that manages to be both stylish and warm. Their impeccable taste just shines through every corner – from the chic furnishings to the carefully curated art on the walls. I felt so welcome there and that I why I especially love working with creatives in our community.
When Keo originally reached out to me through the contact form on Queer Joy Photo, I was immediately struck by his inquiry: “My husband & I are both Black transmen and I am pregnant with our first child…” I was more than thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this moment in their lives with […]
It was such an honor and joy to spend time with Ngọc—a non-binary Vietnamese-American musician whose music feels like both a deep breath and a quiet ache. I photographed them at the photo studio (Denver Photo Collective) and later at their home, where things felt slower, softer, and pretty chill. Their presence is grounding, their […]
It was such an honor to photograph Fawn, a queer real-estate agent in Denver at her home with her two sweet cats. She is such an inspiring queer person in business, I thought it would be great to interview her and to feature her “why” on this Queer Joy Blog.
Such a chill and relaxed portrait session I aim to make everyone (including pets) feel comfortable when we are photographing. I approach things holistically because if someone is not feeling at ease, it can show up in the photos. More coming soon.
